Proto-branch activities
The possibilities are endless!
In the run up to conference
Your Party members will potentially be involved in regional assemblies and in the national conference, either creating, reviewing or voting on proposals such as the national constitution, key principles and other big decisions.
Political discussions and debates at a local level are important, then, to help members to develop their thinking on how local issues influence key debates playing out nationally.
You may also like to organise discussions directly on these key debates, so that people can develop their thinking on them. If delegates are called for the national conference, then they will be better equipped to vote on the proposals, having engaged local members in the thinking too.
In preparation for a long-term branch operations
People are motivated by different priorities and ideas. It's important to allow this to flourish, while developing a collective consciousness. Discussion could include topics like:
- policy and programme
- local grievances and needs
- values and principles
In Leicester, a large assembly gathered people in small breakout groups to discuss three questions, before bringing them back to the main assembly to discuss the findings:
- What issue most important to you personally, for Your Party to deal with?
- What about locally?
- What about nationally?
But collective conciousness is also developed through relationship-building, collective action and big gatherings.
And more!
- Political education for members
- Reaching out to people in your community, neighbourhood and industry
- Campaigning on issues that are important to you
